A roofing contractor's free claim guidance costs nothing because it is marketing for the roof job, and their interest is in a claim being approved for work they will perform. That interest usually aligns with yours, and sometimes does not: it does not align when the right answer is not to file, when a repair would do, or when the contractor wants an assignment of benefits. We charge $249 and have no interest in the outcome either way.

Our verdict, including when the answer is not us
This is not an argument that contractors are dishonest. You need a good local contractor, their estimate is one of the most useful documents in your claim, and their knowledge of local practice is real. The point is narrower: the party who profits from the repair should not be your only source of information about whether and how to claim for it. Use both, and understand which is which.
